3/03 - My surgery by Dr. Anez was at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, VA on 5/6/02. I had the open RNY gastric bypass and also had my gallbladder removed because during the pre-op testing they found an incredible amount of gallstones. Guess that was from all the previous times I lost fair amounts of weight in the past, but always gained it back, plus more). The surgery went exactly as planned on a Monday morning with no complications whatsoever. I had some pain, but the nice little button attached to my bed that dispensed pain medication made me a happy camper. I was up walking that afternoon and took a shower the next day. My recovery from the surgery was very easy compared to what I thought it might be. The binder they provide and tell you to wear is the best thing you can do for yourself. Trim it narrower than it comes if it's too wide for you to make it more comfortable as you lose weight, but continue to weat it for the 8 weeks while your muscles heal. It makes all the difference!
