Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery

"The pre op staff was great. The ICU staff was excellent. However, when put in my room, the nursing staff was horrible!!! I sent my husband home the 2nd night to get some rest. What a mistake that was. At 2am I had to go to the restroom. I had just gotten out of ICU at 8pm that night and into my room. I called on the nurse call button at 15 min intervals for (1 hour)!! YES...1 HOUR. Each 15 min the person on the other end would say, someone will be there shortly. FINALLY....I absolutely had to go.. With My morphine drip, IV, Oxygen and till groggy from ICU, I managed to make it to the bathroom by myself. While in the bathroom, I also called the nursing station on the panic button to come help me. NO ONE EVER CAME. I somehow managed to get back to my bed!!!!! IT WAS HORRIBLE...Needless to say, I would not let my husband out of my sight until I was discharged!!!!!!"

John P. Grant

"Well went for my pre-op interviews with the Psyche and surgeons, Dr. McMahon and Dr. Grant. Both were very impressive and knowledgeable. Very understanding and explained all concerns in detail. One on one with Dr. Grant shows that he cares greatly for the obese and understands their needs and concerns. I feel like I'm in the best of hands for this Wednesdays surgery. ************************** My first impression of Dr. Grant is that he really knew what he was talking about. The seminar was great. He explained everything in detail. I haven't had a one on one with him yet. I've been accepted to be a patient. I'm waiting for my first appointment which should be coming in about 2 weeks. I am so excited, I can hardly wait. Will update as the process proceeds."
