KATHLEEN........I AM SORRY TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE IN SO MUCH PAIN. SURGERY IS NEVER AN EASY DECISION, YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR RESEARCH AND TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS THE BEST OPTION FOR YOU. YOU NEED TO WEIGH THE RISKS OF THE SURGERY WITH THE POSSIBLE BENEFITS YOU WILL REAP. THERE IS ALWAYS A RISK WITH ANY TYPE OF SURGERY SO ALSO RESEARCH YOUR SURGEON, CHECK WITH YOUR STATE MEDICAL BOARD TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY MALPRACTICE SUITS AGAINST HIM AND IF THERE ARE, DISCUSS THEM WITH HIM/HER AND THEN DECIDE IF YOU STILL FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THEM AS YOUR SURGEON. I PERSONALLY TOOK GREAT COMFORT IN THE FACT THAT THE MORTALITY RATE FOR THIS SURGERY IS PRETTY LOW. IT TOOK ME ABOUT 5 YEARS OF PLAYING ON THE INTERNET TO GATHER UP THE COURAGE TO PROCEED WITH MY LAP RNY. BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH FOR THE SOLUTION TO YOUR DILEMMA

Kathleen - My heart goes out to you. I know you are facing a difficult decision - its a decision that probably most of us questioned at one point or another along the way. You are the only person who can make this decision - its your body, your life. There have been others here at AMOS who have changed their minds about having this surgery, and that's what was right for them. And there are far more who have decided to have the surgery. Yes, people can have complications, but not everyone does. I know this probably isn't helping very much, but all of us here in the AMOS family are behind you, whatever you decide to do. Keep your chin up, and I will say a prayer for you. Lisa
