John Stoner

"You can't explain it all. Dr. Stoner has been great, and his nurse Janet is wonderful. From the beginning she has always taken the time to talk to me. Even when it wasn't important to anyone else but me. She sent me a folder of info, to start, then later set me up with my first appt. with Dr. Stoner. He was sweet and came out to me. No stuffy offices here. I told him that my hearing is kinda bad and he always tried to remember to talk louder for me so that I did not misunderstand anything. He explained exverything carefully and added WLS history when he felt it would explain options better. I had to have a special test done on my esophogus. When it was time to have this scope "shoved" down my throat, the first thing Dr. Stoner did was ask me about my weekend. I felt so relaxed after that and the whole thing went fine. Thay day of surgery he chatted briefly with my family. (My dad had VBG with another surgeon - and Dr. Stoner wanted to meet him.) He made sure that my biggest concern was met - "make sure my family knows how everything is going during surgery, do not make them wait!" With a 5 1/2 hours surgery they said someone came out four times! He checked on me everyday and then some while I was in the hospital. I had lots of anxiety after I left the hospital and called with several questions. He always called me back and never let me feel stupid. Once he even commented on how it can all be kind of scary. He comes to the support group meetings when he can. Janet takes care of all of that too! She deserves a raise. Anything to change - maybe more information on what to expect after you get home in terms of how you feel, what do if... He really is one of the nicest and caring doctors of all I have met. Thanks Dr. Stoner!"

"All of the staff was great. I can only think of a couple of items to mention. First was during my stay in ICU I apparently was not "waking" very well due to the morphine drip. After 1 1/2 days my family noticed that the PCA pump was not giving me hardly anything. It at one point registered only 8 when the nurse says it should have been alot higher(20-40?). The nurse got a new one right away when she realised it, but my family was rather upset. The nurse was upset herself that she missed checking the output and apologized profusely. Other than that the second issue was minor - I remember one night that I was so very uncomfortable. I think from anxiety that my family was going home to bed - I felt hot, itchy and miserable - and it seemed to take forver for the nurse to listen to me that I needed something to be done. Finally I got my husband to place a cold cloth on my back, and she got me something?, but it took awhile. Everything else was fine. They encouraged me to walk alot!! They never got upset when I wanted to stop, but they would just tell me I really was doing fine. They called me at home to make sure things were still fine and to see if I needed andything."
