Southeast Georgia Health System

"To be honest, I was a little skeptical about using this hospital to begin with. Some of the rewiews that I read make me a little nervous. But I was extremely impressed with the hospital and staff. They handled my emergency with skill and they took great care of me. They kept my family posted! My only complaint was that I was in ICU for 4 days and they are not as familiar with gastric bypass diets as they should be. But the dietician is aware of that and working to improve the situation. All in all I give them an A+ !!!"

"I have only met my surgeon twice so far. Both times have been in informal support group/information sessions. Both times I was able to ask him questions and I felt that he really took the time to answer them thoroughly. I will not have my first appointment with him until sometime in the begining of February. However, over the last few months I have spoken with both Regina and Cheryl on the phone several times and they have been wonderful. They have taken the time to answer my questions and they have always done so with care and compassion. When I first learned of Dr. Henderson one of the most common things that I heard was that he doesnt talk alot but if you ask him questions he will answer them. Well so far I have only seen that to be half true. Yes, he answers questions but he seems to volunteer a great deal of information. He didnt give the impression that he needed to be asked. One of the things that he has stressed the most in these meetings is aftercare. Dr. Henderson refers his patients to the same nutritionist so that we are all on the same page as to what we need to be doing post op. However, these are all things that we are just talking about right now. One of the negative things that I have heard/read about this practice is that his aftercare program needs some fine tuning and work. But until I am post op I will not know for myself. Dr. Henderson is very blunt about the risks involved with this surgery. However, he does balance the facts the his personal stats and the fact that he has not had a 30 post-op mortality to date really speaks for itself. Overall I would rate him with very high marks. I will update this when I am "on the other side" and I have had more time to spend with him. As far as the quesiton posed...wich is better, surgical competence or bedside manner...Again, I do not know the answer to that since I am still pre-op. But both are very important to me and I do hold both of those to high standards..so we will see where the cards fall in a few weeks."
