Marti, I understand where you are coming from, but, unlike you, my surgeon wanted to see that I was as committed to making the changes in my lifestyle before the surgery as she was willing to do for me after the surgery. Food is necessary for life. But you need to be sure that you do not go overboard with food before surgery. For an example, when I saw my surgeon for the first time, she made it clear to me that if I gained ONE POUND more than what I weighed at that first visit that she would not operate on me until I lost back down to that size. And she meant it. I have seen it happen. My surgeon also recommended that I try to lose 25 pounds prior to surgery to help shrink my liver, also to make the surgery that much easier for her. I have to wonder what your surgeon would say if you had that attitude with her when they are trying to get you to a healthy life again. Would you really thumb your nose at her and act like you knew it all and would do what you wanted? I would hope not. This is life changing and you really should get used to the idea now. We eat to live, not live to eat. You will learn this lesson one way or another. I hope that you learn it now, before surgery and not after surgery and are miserable because you can't eat all that you want to. This surgery is a tool, and you need to get used to trying to live this lifestyle now. It will truly help you out in the long run. Have you asked your dietician why she told you this or do you automatically think that someone is telling you what to do? If that is your take on this, you are partly right. This person is trying to get you into the right mindset for this surgery. You have to be ready as mentally for this as your are physically. The doctor's as good as they are only operate on your stomach. You have to be ready to deal with the head hunger and the time to get ready is now, not later. JMHO. I hope that you can take something from what I am telling you. God Bless.
