Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm getting along well. I went back to the doctor last week for my first check up and to have my staples removed. Everything went great. My incision looks good and is healing quickly. I had lost 23 pounds and that was really exciting. Also, my blood pressure was in normal ranges. Mary Ann (the dietitian) checked my food charts and was pleased with what, how and when I was eating. She said that I could move to pureed foods this weekend (earlier than the 5/3 date originally stated). I thought the few bites of a scrambled egg I had on Saturday was just about the best thing I ever ate. This week I can feel some improvement in my energy level and so I think I am beginning to return to feeling like my old self, or rather I should say my new self. It is just that I'm not sure what that will exactly feel like, but I'm looking forward to it. I continue to appreciate all the thoughts and prayers of everyone and to ask that you remember me as I recuperate.

Hi, All, Sorry, that it has taken me so long to post to my site, but my first message didn't post because I had the wrong password. So, I'm going to try again today. First, I want to say a big thank you to my angel, Marilyn Childers. She has been so wonderful through all of this and is still there for me daily with her support and encouragement and answering all my questions. I just can't say enough about her and what a great friend she has been. I look forward to seeing her soon and giving her a big hug. Second, I want to say thank you to my daughter, Jalah, and my cousin, Ruth Ann, who have been there for me during my recovery. They are both terrific nurses and have taken great care of me. Finally, I want to thank everyone (friends, family, my bosses and co-workers, and WLS website members) who have prayed, sent a note, card, visited me in the hospital, or just thought of me over the past couple of weeks. I know the surgery went well. I am able to get up and around, but still get a little tired. My diet is going along nicely and I have not been sick and feel full after my meals. The only problem that continues to plagued me is my bad left ankle. I tried going without my walking cast for a few days when I first got home and think I aggravated it. So, now, I am back to wearing the cast and even sleeping in it in order to be able to get up and go to the bathroom. I keep praying that as the weight begins to decrease that the ankle will be able to give me the support I need to walk. Well, that is about all the news. I will continue to try to update more often (now that I finally remembered my password) and let you know how I am progressing. Once again, many thanks for all your thoughts and prayers and don't quit now, they are still very much needed. With gratitude to you all, Donna Badgett

Angel Report: This is my last angel report because Donna is home! She called me today and although she had a rough night last night, she is doing ok. She couldn't find a drug store that had OXYFAST! This is the pain medication that is being prescribed right now. I had it and it is really good stuff. She was able to locate some today and her daughter is picking it up for her. Bless her heart she went all night on her first night at home without pain meds. Hang in there, Donna, it gets better each day. Post when you can and let us all know how you are doing. God bless you!

ANGELIC MEMO: TO: Everyone I spoke to Donna today and she sounded VERY strong. She was up in her chair and has had all tubes and wires and other paraphenalia removed. She said the doctor said she is doing fine. Donna had physical therapy while in her room and said it felt good. What a gal! Keep up the good work, Donna. She'll be home and posting herself soon. She ate her jello and broth and was happy to do so. She is on her way to happiness and a healthy life.

Angel Report^j^ I spoke to Donna this morning and she sounded wonderful! Her voice was strong and she said she had a good night. She is coming out of the drugged state and doing great! No more gorillas!! lol My twin, Carolyn, went to get her staples out today and she and her DH walked over to visit with Donna. Donna was sitting up in a chair. She looked good and was feeling OK. Congrats! Donna, you will have a ball enjoying your new life on this side. God bless you!

I am so glad to hear that Donna came through the surgery successfully. I had great faith that she would and I know her faith is the best. I have known Donna since I was five and our fathers were boyhood friends.. Donna is the most amzing person I have ever know. She is real, supportive, nonjudgemntal, loving, caring, funny, talented. I could go on and on. I am not family but I want to thank all of you who are supporting her trough this difficult time.

Angel Report ^j^ Just got a call from Jalah, Donna's daughter. Donna is in her room which is room 779. She is still very groggy and not responding very much. She is on the morphine pump and seeing gorillas!!! She claims there is a gorilla in her room. Dr. Bergstein removed a small lesion from her liver and he says it is appears to be alright (benign). Once again this surgery may have kept Donna from developing a serious problem. Thank God she had it! While I am on the subject of immediate postop care...I want to tell everyone what my twin, Carolyn, and I did for each other to help us get out of the immediate "funk" after recovery room. We made a kind of routine and in order to get an ice chip we had to breath deeply in through nose and out slowly through mouth four or five times then we had to do "draw" the alphabet with our feet. Four letters at each session. A, B, C, D. etc. then we could have an ice chip! It really helped so much and is something that we could all help our loved one to do after surgery. Also we flexed our feet four times each session. It seems like a small thing but it made the initial recovery much faster. The deep breathing is so important to get "on top" of the pain. Well, this is long so I will post again when I have more news. Please continue to pray for Donna and please give her well wishes on her page. Thanks everyone!

Angel Reporting....Donna is on the other side! Welcome Donna! Her daughter, Jalah, called me at work and Donna was in the recovery room. Dr. Bergstein said everything went fine and she is going to be great. Jalah said to thank everyone for all the prayer and she sounded very tired but happy! She will call me when her mom is in her room, probably a "stepdown" unit. I am so relieved and happy for Donna. You go girl!
