Voravit Wongsa

"I have not met Dr. Jayakumar yet, however I have a doctor's appointment with my PCP to get a referral to see Dr. Jayakumar. I will update after my consultation. March 14, 2001 I received a referral from my PCP and called Dr. Jayakumar's office for an appt. I was referred to Kathy at NeWeigh. Apparently, NeWeigh handles all Dr. Jayakumar's insurance claims/approvals. Kathy was very helpful and advised that she would call my insurance company to see if they cover this surgery, then she would call me back to schedule an appointment if they do cover the surgery. March 20, 2001 Carla with NeWeigh called to schedule my first intake appointment. I am so excited. I am diligently working on my history and getting medical records. Kathy and Carla have both been wonderful. I have an appointment to see Dr. Jayakumar in April and hope all goes well with the insurance coverage and then on to a healthier me! April 4, 2001 After talking with several people through this site, I decided to go with Dr. Wongsa because I felt he had been doing the Lap RNY longer with a perfect record of not having to "open" any of his patients up during the Lap procedure. I had a consultation with Dr. Wongsa yesterday and he was great. He answered all my questions and all my husband's questions and I did not feel rushed by him at all. I feel really confident that he is a good surgeon and a good choice for me to do my surgery. He does not have an aftercare program, but gave me alot of information for success during the meeting. He was very nice, but stern about certain things, i.e. compliance with the eating habits. He stressed how important and hard it is going to be do modify my behavior, but was sure I could do it. His nurse Ruth was very helpful and she is arranging all the tests that I will need. Only upper GI, which is pretty bad, but no psych evaluation or sonogram. I came extremely prepared for this first visit, i.e. medical history, previous physician records, diet history, etc. Ruth advised that since I already gave that stuff to her she would send it with the Dr. letter and they may approve me faster. I still need to get surgical clearance from my PCP, but that is no problem. Once I have my upper GI and get approval, Ruth advised that it should only be 1-2 weeks to get the surgery. I would strongly recommend Dr. Wongsa and his staff. April 6, 2001 Dr. Wongsa's office is great! It has only been 2 days since my consultation and they are already faxing my paperwork to Aetna. Ruth is very nice and patient. April 19, 2001 I talked to Ruth and advised that I was approved. She gave me a choice of surgery dates, and due to some other commitments, I opted for May 24, 2001! Yeah! I can hardly wait. In 4 1/2 weeks I will be on my way to being healthier and happier. Dr. Wongsa's office was very helpful and Ruth has already scheduled my tests and pre-op interview. "
