Decision making and its results

Dec 16, 2015

On August 25th, 2015, was the day my life changed.

It all started one week before, on August 19th; I was casually having a conversation with my mother about my weight and how much I wanted to lose it. I had done many types of dieting and even had a minor weightloss method like the Obalon Balloon. They were efficient, but not enough. At most, I would lose 5 - 8 pounds and gain them back rather quickly. It was not the diet's fault or the Obalon, I just have a difficult time sticking to a strict diet.

I weighed 185 pounds, I felt uncomfortable and even unappealing in my own body. I have always had some issue with my weight and how I looked, but now... It was too much for me. Physically and emotionally I wanted to change, but the weight help me back.

My mother and I searched through the internet, looking at hospitals and surgeons, for a few days, until I told her I was ready; I wanted it as soon as possible. We made the call and I was to begin a liquid diet and watch my food until I got to the hospital. I already had a day to head over there and my surgery date.

We chose Mexicali Bariatric Center, and my surgeon was Dr. Wilhelmy.

I remember driving with my mother to the Mexicali, slightly anxious but excited to get to the Almater Hospital. It was August 24th, I was going to get some blood tests and get weighed. I arrived around 6 pm to Mexicali, had to speak to Dr. Campos, the bariatric nutritionist, about the diet I was going to embarc on. Went to Almater Hospital, did the tests that I mentioned before, and I was ready to leave by 8:30 pm. As soon as I had gotten there, everyone treated me kindly, no effort needed in being polite; it was like they knew I was in the right place.

I slept at the Lucerna hospital, had a wonderful time in there and enjoyed my last meal before surgery. I was ready, more than ever.

Woke up at 5:00 am, changed and headed to the hospital. By 6:00 am, the Almater Hospital staff was prepping me up for surgery. I spoke to the anesthesiologist, Dr. Gutierrez, Dr. Campos one last time and Dr. Wilhelmy.

After surgery, I felt sore and tired most of the time. I believe I even spent a whole day sleeping. The doctor informed me it was because I was younger and even if my body healed quicker, the medicine had a stronger impact on me. It took me a while to get used to it, but it payed of.

I was a around 180 pounds, got to 175 pounds thanks to the liquid diet, had a 32 BMI... And now, after 3 months, I have lost a total of 43 pounds.

My life took a complete change. Not only did I gain confidence to be around others, but in myself. I live a happier life since I had surgery. <3
