After battling obesity for over three decades, I decided to take a stand and regain my health. In December 2014, I asked my primary physician to start me on the path for weight loss surgery and have not looked back since. I had VSG surgery in June of 2015, and have lost 113 pounds throughout the process. More importantly, I have decreased my blood pressure, backed away from being pre-diabetic, and have had less problems with my back. In April 2016, I ran my first 5k and just over a year later, I completed the Pixie Dust Challenge, a two day race event consisting of a 10K the first day and a half marathon the second.
What have I gained through this journey? The list continues to grow. My health, reduction in PCOS symptoms, better sleep, running, a huge sneaker collection, a strong support network. I am thankful for and humbled by this journey. You can follow my journey here or through Instagram. My account, @kateycantsurf, is public.
