I am a 51 year old female with a BMI of 41, weight 268. I had decided about 3 years ago to pursue WLS and began researching. After about a year of researching I made the decision to have the Lapband done. I had that surgery on 11/18/2005. It was a flop almost from the beginning. I had many fills & unfills but was never able to get to that "sweet spot" the lapbanders talk about. I only lost about 18 pounds, and that was the first 3 months. Since then my weight has gradually climbed back up, and past, the 250 I weighed when I had the lapband surgery 2 years ago. I have never been able to eat "solid foods" without pain so I gravitated towards the soft foods, which are full of carbs, hence, weightgain ! I am so tired of the constant pain with eating, the slimming and vomiting, and the endless reflux. I would like to look forward to eating a good healthy meal instead of dreading trying to eat anything solid. If you have pain when you eat you don't just stop eating. You eat those foods that cause you the least discomfort and they are rarely the best foods to eat and try to stay healthy.
I began researching WLS again about a year ago looking for info on a revision. At first I only knew about the RNY but thank goodness I somehow discovered the DS. I have put months of reading, studying, and researching into this and I know the DS is the surgery that is going to change my life. I found, in my research, Dr John Maguire, who has an excellent reputation and a very nice personality. I am looking forward to having this lapband removed, hurray, and my DS done on Dec 18, 2007.
I don't post much on the messageboard but I do hang out there a couple of times a day and soak up all the great advice and info the other DS'ers share. This messageboard is a wealth of information and seems to be a great place to make some very nice friends.
