Had my surgery on wed and it went great I don't have any pain I've had Plain Tylenol in hosp to help me sleep and nothing now at home. My incision is fine my back is sore by end of day from leaning over but after a good sleep its better.( My DR. doesn't want me to put any tension on the sutures so for the first few days I need to walk bent over) real problem with the leaning over I've banged my head several times. Twice on door frames and once on the bathroom cabinet. leave it to me to have abdominal surgery and head ache is my big problem...LOL I have learned to manage better now so I hope no more head bangs. It takes all day to get things done but I'm going slow and steady. I take a nap every day and I sleep two to three hours . My body knows better then me I don't think I'm going to sleep or sleep long and next thing I know its several hours later and nature is calling. My band is not as tight as I thought it was gong to be by Friday night I could eat solid food (Just liquids before that). how ever I can only eat 1/2 cup or 4 oz at a time. so I'm having several small meals . I'm trying to keep my protein and fiber high and I'm not going to watch to much the calories.this is hard to do but I know I need to keep my nutrition up so I can heal. FYI couple folks inquired and yes I have a belly button. I had a friend stay the first two nights. she's gone home but she left instructions with my niece and my sister has been over and also left instructions with my niece so I have just been informed its time to start getting ready for bed..... so I guess I'm getting ready for bed now. thanks again for all the support and prayers Nancee

Been awhile so here's the quick update got lay-ed off in June , took care of a friend who had surgery dealing with unemployment paper work , getting insurance and bank stuff worked out calling around and scaling back on cable, phone, computer etc... getting cost down on any thing I can  trying to work with health insurance folk to get surgery covered...omg there a hand full. Have had my sister in law in hosp x2 she has she has a terminal illness .she's dealing with it well by brother is a bit of a mess but hang-en in there OK. Have had my Dad in hosp x2 just came home Fri .starting rehab today (7/14) on home oxygen not a happy camper but after this week end he's starting to deal better. We're getting thing sorted out and tomorrow I'm going in for a panniculectomy and tummy tuck.I have managed to do a few fun thing in between all the other stuff  Out to a play, couple of concerts, movies, visiting friends,up to a friends cabin , fishing some hiking, a party or two (my nephew just got his PHD very proud of him) I still try to exercise at least two hour a every day. I try to go to support functions once a week or more . So life has been full. Nervous about surgery in Morning but looking forward to been done and recovering. strange thing to say but even though I'll be recovering from surgery I looking forward to the free time. pretty much got other folks lined up to look after all the others and some one look after me.  Have lurked a little but just haven't had much time to read or comment on the board so maybe after surgery I'll at least be able to lurk a little more. Hope every one is doing well

one year post-op

Feb 06, 2009

this is a little formal but it was my way of summing up : looking back. Im one year out form my surgery I'm so happy and pleased with the way this year has gone.nothing is ever totally perfect but as I say this has been pretty close . check out my profile in the next few days I plan on adding new pictures there. don't have any in my avatar yet can't seem to get them to load ??? well heres a copy of my letter to me I did  add FYI's                                                                                                                                                                          Oneyear overview

In General: _____ Can eat 8-9 oz occasionally 10 oz if soft foods can only eat liquids if tight for 12-24 hours Get tight ( swelling) with periods, stress or emotional upset and with colds (so far ) only Pb. on food once Pb. on phlegm with cold Have gotten stuck when tight on pills x3 ( I found gel caps are the problem ) and food x2 occasionally get faint or light headed after exercise ? hypoglycemic Checked with PCP had stress test results fine actually very good. Occasionally smell like ammonia with exercise checked with PCP not unheard of. Have gotten bad rash lower abd , groin and upper thigh area ( x3 )following up with PCP _____ Positive:      Down 121 pounds ,exercise better and more often, walking faster and farther (15-30,000 steps daily) still no hunger, made and making new friends, not using asthma meds, knee pain better, down several clothes sizes , eating healthier and in general living healthier life style. I get to give back and share at the informational  meeting ____    Working on:     head hunger , cravings at those peri-menopausal moments , Body Image issues getting better but not there , eating at family functions still graze there so I eat more calories then I should (over eat in the course of the day) only weight once a week but focus too much on scale when doesn’t move ( I get a little depressed). Missing meals and not always getting in calories for the day. I get scare and a little anxious when stuck I worry about harming my band. Plus it hurt like hell._____ Ambivalent about:  (  FYI I got restriction  and loss my hunger with band placement and have not  had a fill yet )     I’m very happy with and love My band and not needing any fills and having no hunger and yet having restriction and not wanting any changes this is working (but not with out some problems ).But If I didn’t have the restriction and needed fills I wouldn’t get so scare if stuck and I could get an un fill if I had a problem .And would I get swelling and stuck if I wasn’t so tight to start with. And I’m sure I’d be just as happy. But this way too can have problems!!!!!! ______Goals:      175 pounds by this summer(  FYI my pre surgery goal ), then get to a normal BMI even if just for a day (154pounds) or as close as possible, then maintain my weight. Keep living a healthy life style Get better control of cravings and grazing Get rash and skin issues under control Get a breast reduction and lift ______Thankful for;      I made the decision to have this surgery and then I went to unity (Fridley Mn.) and have a wonderful bariatric team following me . I have a absolutely great Surgeon with a wonderful staff. My surgery went incredibly well I got an unbelievably great band that I love and is working so well for me. I have met and made fantastic friends. From family ,friends and staff I have received the best support ever.. I’m living a healthier life and I’M DOWN 121 POUNDS .I know nothing in life is perfect but this so far has been pretty damn close. Nancee  Lap band 02/05/08
