DAY BEFORE SURGERY!!!
May 08, 2007
Well it's the day before surgery and I'm finishing up last little things around the house. I'm the first surgery of the day so I have to be there at 5:00 am. I guess the sooner the better! Well my journey is getting ready to begin all over again. From the end of October until May has been about 7 months of waiting. That was a journey in itself. I'm not complaining, it actually went faster than I thought it would. I was told it would be atleast a 1 yr wait. God has answered my Prayers! My emotions right now are stable, I'm not too overwhelmed or second guessing myself. I'm ready! So I hope the world is going to be ready for a new healthier me. Thank God for all that he has done for me and my family and I know he will continue to be with us! Thanks everyone on OH for being such a big support and help, as I had tons of questions. I love this site! I will see you all on the losing side! God Bless!

PRE OP
May 04, 2007
MAY 04 2007(Fri)
Today I went to pre-op and spent half of my day going over preps, Bowel prep, 4 day fast -liquid diet, medications, anethesia, another EKG, and Pharmacy. Wow I'm exhausted! I start my liquid diet in the morning (SAT). Thank God I didn't have to start tonight. I have my mouth set on some Taco salad, yummy! My last meal before surgery. I'm so excited and I can't believe that I have come this far. It is definitely a reality now! I'm really going to have GBP -RNY surgery. Well, I've got to get cooking so I will post more later God bless!

My Journey so far...
Apr 11, 2007
Hello and God bless! Well I went to the seminar in late October that everyone has to attend which is like 3-4 hours long. They have these seminars every month. During the seminar they go over a lot and usually one of the physicians/nurses is there and as well as nutrition and maybe psych. You receive a number so sit close to the front. Any how they were on number 250 something in late October and I was number 500. From late October to March 28 the wait was about 6 months. I had my initial consultation with Dr. Robert Chastanet March 28, 2007. He said I was a good candidate and ordered my test. I took all of my weight loss attempts with me to that visit (required). I went as far back as 1997 which was a ten year time span. You don't have to do that, you are only required 6 months of attempting. Whether it be Weight watchers, Jenny Craig,Cuves, Nutritionist, Step Aerobics, Personal Trainer, Prescription Xenical, Slim Fast, Trimpsa, etc I typed it up and took it to the appt. and the Dr. reviewed it , and said, great because he thought he was going to have to turn me and around to go back and try to lose the weight for about 6 months, but he said good girl and put it in my records. I had to do EKG, Lab/Urine, Chest X-Ray, which is completed. I'm still waiting on my Nutrition and Psych appointment which is April 25 and April 27, 2007. Then I will call and get my pre op appt, date. During my pre-op appt, we will go over my test results and nutrtition and psych if all checks out then I will be issued my surgery date at this appt. His nurse said it might be sometime in May-June. Initially they told me that the wait would be 12-18 month from the time I went on the waitng list until the time I actually completed the surgery. So far it has only been 7 months and maybe 8-9 months by the time I actually have the surgery done. It's actually gone pretty fast. I was initially going to switch to standard and go with Dr. Terraccina in Newport News, but I couldn't afford the extra expenses at the time so I went to Portsmouth. You may be able to get it done faster through a civilian provider. My friends went through him and they're retired military. I'm hoping that this helps? I wish you many prayers in what ever you choose to do. If you have any questions by all means please don't hesitate to ask, because I had tons of questions. Tiawna J.
