Goodmorning all, Charlie Jokinen here...Michelle's husband. I wanted to first and foremost thank all of you thinking and praying for Michelle, as well as give you an update at towhats been going on.
Wednesday the 6th was her surgery, and looked like everything had gone very well, she was up walking by 4:30pm! On Thursday she began getting very pale and very week, and her hemoglobin had droped from 10.1 to 9.4 during the day. Red flags popped up and even Dr. Featherstone figured there could be a small bleed somewhere. Friday it continued to drop when they decided to give her a blood transfusion as well as transfer her to the Cardiac Unit because of her past heart history. Saturday morning even with the transfusion, her hemoglobin actually had dropped a little more, so Dr. Featherstone decide to, first of all do a scope of her new pouch, and if needed open her back up. Which is what they needed to do. They were able to find the small bleed right away and fixed it by resewing along the staple line. He also resewed along all the other staple lines just to be sure. After recover we were taken to ICU which is where she still remains. Yestday (Sunday) was pretty much just a rest day, quite a bit of pain, but some good news that with just a small amount of insulin, her blood sugars were 94! They have been hovering in the high 200's for months now. They seem to have stabilized 150, but we are still very happy with that.
This morning Dr. Featherstone let us know that the hemoglobin was staring to go back up, which was fantastic and that everything else was going back to normal. All we need is the clearance from our cardiologist so we can get back to a regular bed and room and look forward to getting back home soon.
I think thats it for now, sorry for such a long update.
Again I want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers
Right now she is in Rm. 2201 in ICU but hopefully that will change today.
Talk to you all soon.
