Hi Susan, I don't know why anyone would choose open RNY over lap... it is exactly the same procedure. I do believe it is important to have a skilled and well trained laparscopic surgeon. I was very lucky to become acquainted with Dr. Brian Quebbeman of the NEW program in Huntington Beach. His training is exclusively in laparscopic surgery and now he specializes in WLS. He only has a conversion (to open) rate of 5%. I was only in the hospital 2 nights and had some discomfort, but no pain. It was amazing! Best wishes for your upcoming surgery.

Susan, I think it's something all pre-ops on this page do at one time or another. I did the same thing. I read ever profile on the page. I was depressed for an entire weekend. I just flung myself on the couch and didn't move. I had all kind of thoughts going through my head. Then I thought, if this is meant to me it will happen. If it's not it won't. God does not take us until he's ready. And that's something we have no control over. Take care.
