I'am a 46 year old mother and grandmother, My starting Weight is 227, My height is 5"0, My starting BMI is 44.3. My goal is to weigh 115. I have been overweight off and on for the last 20 years, tried every diet out there. I have become Morbidly Obese within the last 2 years. I have a wonderful man in my life who excepts me as I'am, I have a son and four daughters, one at the tender age of 16 went to be with Jesus along with 3 of her friends 5 years ago. I have 4 grandchildren (3girls and 1 boy)and 1 on the way (another boy).

I decided I wanted to have RNY after one of my best friends had it done 4 years ago and lost 100% of her excess weight. She started at 240 pounds and now weighs 115-120, she looks great. My family is very supportive about my decision. My surgery is scheduled on March 15, 2006. I have very little anxiety about my surgery. For me this is a win, win situation. Either I will recover and become healthy or if I die I will be with the Lord and my daughter. God is in control. The risk of this surgery is no greater than getting into a car and going to the grocery store. In life we have no garuntees.
I'am home from surgery and feeling great. Surgery went well, lasting only 45 minutes. My hospital stay was awesome, I had a great doctor with great staff and the hospital staff was also wonderful. I went for my 1 week post op check up and had lost 12 pounds. How great is that? My only complaint is I'am tired of liquids.

Wow, I'am now 4 1/2 months post op and I have lost a total of 60 pounds. The weight is coming off much slower now. I can eat almost anything now, but of course only a few bites and I'am full. I can tolerate very little sugar. at this time.  My hair is thinning a little. nothing noticable to anyone but me. I  do take vitamins, niacin and B-12 daily. I have been suffering with a kidney stone since April not sure if it is related to WLS or not but it is very painful. I can't seem to get enough water in on a daily basis. I do ok with my protein now, I have a shake daily and a few bites of a protein bar to compensate what I'am lacking with food. I can only eat a few bites then I'am full, anything more and it will come back up. My food cravings are no longer the same as before WLS, at this point in my journey food no longer controls me, if I want something I will have a taste and then I'am done. My biggest down fall is milk, I love milk and have all my protein shakes with milk .

I have not been on here in a while, I had been in severe pain and on pain medications. I went to see Dr. Hargroder and he put me on Previcid for treatment of an Ulcer, the medications has worked and I'am feeling  much better. I still continue to lose 8-10 pounds a month with about 40 more pounds to lose. I'am 5 1/2 months post op and down 72 pounds, I could never have done this well without surgery. This has been the greatest gift I have ever given to myself.

October 15, 2006

I'am now 7 months post op and weigh 141 pounds, for a total loss of 86 pounds with 26 more pounds to goal. I feel great. This has truley been one of the best decisions I have ever made. No regrets here, I would do this all over again in a heartbeat. Although the road has not been easy, it has been worth it. I have suffered with a kidney stone and now suffer with an Ulcer. I'am on Previcid and doing fine as long as I take my meds. I also take my vitamins, niacin and B-12 daily. I have gone from a size 18-20 to a 10-12. I now enjoy doing many things I would not have been able to do, had I not had this surgery. We recently bought a camp near the Lake and try to go every weekend. I would not have gotten in a boat before surgery and now when the weekend rolls around I'am the first one ready to go. Good luck to all. May God Bless and keep you in his protective hands.

I'am now 7 1/2 months post-op and now weigh 136 pounds with 21 more pounds to goal. I now wear an 8/10. Total loss of 91 pounds. 9 more pounds to the 100 pound weight loss goal. Can't beat that. I never could have done this without GBS.

December 13,2006

Just a quick update I'am now 9 months post op and now weigh 129.  I 'am just 2 pounds away from hitting the 100 pound weight loss goal. I have another 14 pounds to my last goal. I would like to maintain my weight at 115 pounds. I still continue to lose 4-8 pounds a month. I have been pretty aweful about exercise and really need to start. I still only eat a few bites and feel full, I can eat small amouts of sugar, but usually to curb my sweet tooth I eat 1 graham cracker and 1/2 cup of milk.

I'am now 11 1/2 months post op and now weigh 116 pounds a total loss of 111 pounds. I now wear a size 2 in pants and small in shirts. I feel great. I feel like I'am at goal and really don't care to loose any more weight.

July 8,2008

I'am now 28 months post-op and now weigh 127 pounds. My lowest weight has been 113 pounds. I have put back on 14 pounds and look and feel much better.  At this point I don't really want to loose any more weight and definetly don't want to gain any more. This weight loss surgery is still the best thing I have ever done for myself. We still have our camp at the lake and I have learned to drive a boat and I have also gone hydro-sliding, something I could not have done at 227 pounds. I enjoy many things that my weight would not have allowed me to do before.  I have not had any cosmetic surgery at this time. I really don't feel that I need it. I still do not exercise and feel if I would that I could probably tighten what needs to be tightend. My skin does not hang anywhere but I do need to tighten and build muscle. I still eat anything and everything my heart desires but still small amounts. I can tolerat just about any food including sugar. I have never had much of a problem with dumping.  I had a Florascope last week and everything looks good. My pouch is a good size with no stretching.
