3 months out
Apr 15, 2008
Sorry It has taken so long to post anything but my computer is broke and I have had to come to the library.
Well I am 3 months out and I have 60 pounds. I wish I could say that I am excited about that but I feel it is going very slow. My dr. say's I can only eat chicken, fish, eggs, and beans. I am so sick of eating that, but they say you won't loose any weight if you don't eat lots of protein. I am still having problems with eating, I must be eating to fast or not chewing very well. It is all a learning process. I am glad I had the surgery because I know I would be 280 or more by now if I had not done this. So far I am not having any health problems, only some headaches from time to time. I do notice that my legs hurt alot everyday, but I think it is because I walk 1-3 miles a day and have been working out at the gym. I would have to say this is not the easy way out, don't let anyone tell you it is.
I also had a friend of mine passed away in march. She was the one I asked about having surgery. She was always very frank about the good and bad of this surgery. I feel it is important to tell everyone her story so that we don't make the same mistakes she did.
My friend Debbie had gbs about ten years ago. She had gotten down to about 100 pounds. About 4 months ago she started having problems keeping food/liquids down. She went to see her reg. doctor. He sent her to specialist and she had lots of testing done. They found out she had a blockage in her small int. where it conected to her stomach. No doctors in the area would do surgery on her because she had had gbs. She had been taken to the emergency room, they told her there was nothing they could do, gave her pain pills and sent her home. She finally called me on a Sat. and told me that she had not seen her gbs doctor in over 8 years. She had not gone back for her yearly check up or anything. I told her that she needed to call him . So she did, he had moved to St. Augustine, her husband took her up there on Monday, they ran more test and tried to get here stablized, but it was to late, I got a call that Sat that she had a brain anurism, and had died. Her heart, kidney, and liver had failed and her blood pressure was so high that it caused her to have the brain anurism.
I want everyone to know that this surgery is not something that should be taken lightly, and you need to stay in contact with your doctor for life, also ask your doctor that if anything should ever happen to him, who would be taking care of you. Because most doctors will not touch you if you have had this surgy.
