Hi Helen, My name is Dawn. I went to the seminar on Valentine's day this year and my surgery is set for 8/25/08. Tomorrow is actually my pre-op at Roger Williams Hospital. Waiting 6 months felt like a long time but Dr. Pohl's office told me that some people actually have to wait a lot longer. After the seminar, I couldn't get an app't. w/ him until April. In the meantime though, I was setting up the other app'ts. so that when I did have my visit w/ him, I tried to have most of it out of the way. I didn't have to have a sleep test because I have sleep apnia and I just missed the mark for having a cardiology exam. You have to be 40 and over and I just turned 40 yesterday so I got lucky w/ that one. As we speak, I am having my last meal, last real meal, which is Chinese food, my favorite! I am severing this relationship w/ food tonight because tomorrow I start my two week liquid diet. I think it's going to be pretty tough, since I am a smoker too and had to quit that awhile back. The next two weeks aren't going to be pretty...LOL Anyhow, here is how the timeline played out for me: Tthe first test I was able to book was the gallbladder exam. From there I believe I had my first visit w/ the nutritionist, then the psy. eval, and the nutritionist again. After that was in place, I called the office so that they could call for my endoscopy to be scheduled. I think a lot of the things that hold up the process is just waiting for everyone to connect. I had to ask my PCP twice for the referral letter. Little things like that can make you lose some time but we have to be patient. It's a busy world out there. Ok, so after the endoscopy, I called to make a follow up visit w/ Dr. Pohl. Again, there is more waiting because they have to get the approval from the insurance co. and make sure they have all the documentation from every test or visit you had. My insurance approval actually came in, in about 2 days, which I hear is pretty quick. When I did go to his office the second time, that's when we booked the pre-op and operation date. That was the process for me. Dr. Pohl likes to dot all his i's and I like that. He's very thorough. I chose him because my best friend had him four years ago for gastric bypass and had a very positive experience with him. So hang in there, it will sometimes feel like everything is taking forever, but it will be here before you know it. Good luck with your journey!!!
